ACS Senior Chemists' Event
We will be holding a special event to restart our Senior Chemists’ group. You and your spouse/guest are invited to a lunch beginning at 11:30 am on Tuesday, November 18th at the Green Mill Restaurant and Bar at 57 So. Hamline Avenue in St. Paul. The restaurant is located at the junction of Grand Avenue and Hamline Avenue, on the south side of Grand Avenue, next to a restaurant called “the Twisted Fork”. We will be in the private room of the Green Mill Restaurant, so ask for the ACS event when you arrive. Parking for the restaurant is about 100 yards west of Hamline, in a lot on the north side of Grand Avenue. Street parking is also allowed in the area.
The lunch will be informal. Many seniors have expressed an interest in doing some chemistry related volunteer work, and following the lunch there will be a short program about possible volunteer activities, especially in schools, and printed information will be available from the ACS. There will also be teachers, and people who have been involved in volunteer work, present at the event for you to talk to. However you are not expected to sign up for a volunteer activity if you do not wish to—just come for the lunch and to meet other senior chemists!
A grant that I obtained for the local section will be used towards some of your lunch expenses. You will be ordering from the menu, and beer and wine is available also.
We do need to know numbers, so please let me know if you are coming, and if you plan to bring a guest, by Wednesday, November 12. Respond by email to email@example.com
I look forward to seeing you! Lynn

Ways to connect with MN-ACS and your fellow chemists:
Do you get e-mail from MN-ACS? Would you like to be notified through our mailing list; or perhaps you prefer a different e-mail address from the one on file with ACS National? We are now using the popular - and easy to manage - MailChimp. Subscribe to our newsletter.
Join our MN-ACS Facebook Groupto socially network with other area chemists and chat about past and future meetings.
Become an Affiliate Member of the Minnesota ACS Section! All members of the National ACS living in the area served by the MN Section are automatically affiliate members of the section. However, if you are not a National ACS member, but are interested in networking with chemists in the local section, become an affiliate member! Benefits of MN-ACS Affiliate membership include a subscription to The Minnesota Chemist newsletter and opportunities for participation in MN-ACS section activities. Current membership cost is only $10.00 per calendar year. Annual renewal is necessary and reminders may not be sent. Your one-calendar-year membership will commence once payment is received. If you are interested, send a check made out to ‘MN-ACS’ to Mary Slinger, 19547 Roberds Lake Blvd., Faribault, MN 55021. Please include the following information: Name, complete address, e-mail address, phone number, and classification (i.e., graduate student/undergraduate/high school teacher/consultant/other).
Do you know MNACS has a Facebook group? If you're a Facebook user, you can add yourself to the group to see our updates right on your news feed.
MNACS is slowly transitioning to the 21st century "social-media" Internet. Our old text-based LISTSERV is no longer running (the hamster powering that server died) and we are now moving to Facebook and Google Groups to replace that service.
If you want to be part of the Facebook group, just go to your Facebook account and in the Search box, look for American Chemical Society Minnesota Local Section (or "Like" us at left!)
There are two Google Groups set up. MNACS-Ex is the executive committee's group - primarily about business, meeting planning and minutes, etc. The other group, MNACS, is for more general topics.
The MNACS group is an open group: anyone can sign up for it. People who sign up can post messages, and you have the option of receiving messages in several formats: as they are posted; as a daily digest, or reading only when you visit the page. Visit the page to sign up. It has very little traffic now.
The MNACS-EX group is a closed group. If you are interested in receiving those messages, go to the group page and click "Request an invitation to join this group".
Get involved in ACS! MN-ACS
runs monthly meetings and volunteer opportunities. Share your
professional skills and your enthusiasm for chemistry. Meet other
chemists and broaden your horizons.
Want to host an event? Know a good speaker? MN-ACS is
always planning for future events. If your organization would be
interested in hosting an ACS event, or if you'd like to suggest a
speaker, a topic, or a location for one of our talks, please e-mail the
chair-elect (see "Contacts" page.)
If you have an item you'd like to list on the Events Calendar, please send full details using the form on the Contacts page. Please note that to submit an item you must be a member of MN-ACS or an affiliated organization. "Spam" events or events not judged to be of interest to our membership will be deleted.
