MNACS Outreach Activities
Every month the Chemists-in-the-Library program
visits a local library in the Twin Cities area. For each event, volunteers from
industry, local colleges, and the University of Minnesota prepare between six
and eight hands-on activities. The program targets primarily K-6 kids, but many
older children and adults enjoy these events. Since the program's inception in
October 2004, more than 1400 visitors attended Chemists-in-the-Library events.
If you want to know more about this program, come and join us at our next event.

Kids and Chemistry
A program where chemists lead 5th grade students in hands-on
experiments in their classroom. In addition to giving kids contact with real
chemists, it also teaches by example the scientific method of experiment, how to
make and record observations, draw and test conclusions.

& Chemistry, and to sign up for training, contact

National Chemistry Week
National Chemistry Week is a community-based program that
actively involves members of the Section with businesses, schools, and
individuals in communicating to the public the importance of chemistry to our
quality of life. Held annually during the week of “Mole Day” (October 23rd),
NCW has been celebrated in the Minnesota Section in major outreach events held
at universities, in libraries and malls. Mini-experiments for children play an
important role in this outreach program that focuses on a specific theme each
year.
National Chemistry Week activities are scheduled for
Saturday, October 20, 2007 at the new Minneapolis Public Library. The theme is
"The Many Faces of Chemistry."
Watch for updates! Want to volunteer? Contact Marilyn Duerst.
