May: MN ACS Chemists-in-the-Library Event*
YCC will volunteer through the local MN ACS section to design and present a chemical
experiment for kids. This will be an excellent event to promote interest and the advancement of
chemistry in your local community.

August: MRSEC-SURE/YCC Summer Research Poster Session*
August 9th, 2007
4-7pm
Memorial Hall of McNamara Alumni Center
University of Minnesota, east bank campus

The Younger Chemists Committee (YCC) for the Minnesota section of the American Chemical Society (ACS) and Materials Research Science and Engineering Center (MRSEC) are hosting a poster session for summer undergraduate researchers, chemistry graduate students, and industrial researchers.  A panel of both industrial scientists and chemistry professors will judge this poster session.  Last year, a $100 cash prize was given to the best poster in graduate chemistry division and a CRC Handbook of Chemistry and Physics was given to the top three presenters in the undergraduate chemistry division. Similar prizes will be given out this year.

To register for the poster session, please download the registration form and email the completed version to Joe ScanlonRegistration will close August 1st.

This is a great opportunity for undergrads in the area to present the results of their research and see what research is being pursued at other universities.  Moreover, as a judged competition sponsored by the ACS, this represents a good way for students to add to their CV, and we hope that your universities are willing to be involved.  Last year was a successful event, with over 40 chemistry undergraduates from the UMN, Hamline University, and University of St. Thomas presenting at the poster session.  If you have any questions, please contact Joe Scanlon, YCC Communications Chair.

Also, if you or your fellow faculty at your institution would be interested in judging the competition, we have a few open slots for judges left.

October: Science & Chemistry Social*
YCC, AXE (academic chemistry fraternity), and AIChE (American Institute of Chemical Engineers)
will co-host a social for young chemists and scientists to get together and socialize, network,
have fun, and relax . Come meet up with and get to know other younger professionals in Minnesota!

November: Chemistry Careers Workshop & YCC Dinner*
Enjoy a meal and learn about the various career paths available to chemists of all educational levels. A
panel of academic and industrial representatives from a variety of scientific disciplines will discuss what
they do and how they found their niche in chemistry. Panel members will be available to answer questions
after their presentations for more in depth questions.

December: Holiday Party *
This event will be held with the entire MN ACS division. Great opportunities will exist for
individuals to network with many other professionals working for Fortune 100 companies
in the Twin Cities area. A great event to enjoy great food, and great company!
